George Mason University, School of Art, Fairfax

About
Founded in 1972 George Mason University is particularly known for its undergraduate and graduate degree programs in information technology, engineering, biotechnology and health care. The School of Art at the university offers undergraduate studio degrees leading to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). The department also offers graduate Master of Arts (MA) and Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) to selected students. Pupils can concentrate a portion of their study in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, new media, graphic design, interdisciplinary arts (InterArts) or photography. The School also offers a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Art Education. This prepares students with a BFA degree for PK-12 art licensure by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Students can also opt for a BA and MA in the History of Art.

Annual Tuition Fee: Virginia resident $8484 and non residents: $25,248.

James Madison University, School of Art and Art History, Harrisonburg

About
James Madison University was established in 1908 and art was an important part of the curriculum from the start. Today, the School of Art and Art History offers a variety of undergraduate degrees: Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Studio Art and Art History. A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is offered in Studio Art, Graphic Design and Interior Design. A Bachelor of Science (BS) is offered in Studio Art and Industrial Design. A Teaching Licensure is available for students wishing to teach pre-kindergarten—12. Electives in Studio Art can be chosen from various types of art including: Drawing, figure drawing, painting, metalwork and jewellery art, photography, sculpture, weaving, fibers and graphic design.

Tuition Fee: In state residents $3,930 per semester and non state residents $10,312 per semester.

Radford University, Department of Art, Radford

About
Located in New River Valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Radford University was founded in 1910. The Department of Art offers courses in drawing, sculpture, painting (oil and watercolours), jewellery & metalsmithing, ceramics, graphic design (websites), art history and museum studies, photography and art education. Awards on offer are: Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS). A Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program is also available for students seeking a terminal degree in Studio Art. Students have access to the Radford University Art Museum which houses over 1200 works of art (200 pieces are student works) in its permanent collection.

The School of the Arts is located in Richmond, Virginia and offers 16 programs to more than 3,000 students a year. It began with humble origins as one night class taught in 1928 by Theresa Pollak. Alumni members have been awarded many honors in the arts including 5 Guggenheim Fellowships, 5 Joan Mitchell Awards, 4 Pollock-Krasner Awards and the International Sculpture Center Outstanding Student Achievement Award. Courses on offer include: Art Foundation; Painting & Printmaking (BFA); Craft/Material Studies (BFA); Sculpture & Extended Media (BFA); Kinetic Imaging (BFA); Art Education (BFA); Art History (BA); Cinema/Film (BA); Film (BFA); Communication Arts (BFA); Dance & Choreography (BFA); Fashion Design (BFA); Fashion Merchandising (BA); Graphic Design (BFA); Interior Design (BFA); Music (BA,BM); Photography (BFA) and Theatre (BFA,BA). Virginia Tech, School of Visual Arts, Blacksburg

About
Virginia Tech was established in 1968 and enrolls over 32,000 students a year. The School of Visual Arts (SOVA) offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Arts with a variety of disciplines including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture and digital art as well as classes in new media, 3D animation and modeling. Students can study for a BFA in Visual Communication Design (formerly called Graphic Design) which includes tuition in multimedia web page design, print design, product and packaging design and advertising design. A major in Art History can lead to a BA, and subject matter range from ancient Egyptian art and architecture to the 19th/20th century art; archaeology, Japanese art aas well as Chinese art and the history of graphic design. The Art Armory is the School's main gallery and classrooms for Foundations and Drawing. The Experiential Gallery for Creative Technologies is used an experimental area for digital and technology based arts.
