Donald Teskey (b.1956)The contemporary Irish landscape painter Donald Teskey was born in Limerick in 1956. He studied fine art painting at the Limerick School of Art and Design, and now lives and works in Dublin. He is noted for his large scale landscape painting, thick with impasto, which offer powerful images of instantly recognisable parts of the Irish scenery with large abstract sections denoting the relentless and elemental force of wind and sea. Donald Teskey attracted attention during the 1980s as a result of his drawing skills, with several important one-man exhibitions and several painting awards. |

Since 1992 Teskey has created a substantial body of work as a painter of the Irish landscape and more recently the ruggedness of the Western coast. His art has been exhibited in the UK, USA, South Africa, Canada, Germany and Finland. In 2005, the Limerick City Gallery of Art hosted the show "Tidal Narratives", an exhibition of large scale paintings and drawings coinciding with the publication of a book on Teskey by Gandon Editions. In 2003 he was elected a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. Collections Donald Teskey is represented by the Rubicon Gallery in Dublin, and at Art First in London. His pictures are represented in the collections of the Arts Council of Ireland; The Contemporary Irish Art Society; The Office of Public Works; Deutsche Bank, Dublin; Dublin Institute of Technology; Ark Life; A.I.B. bank; Barings Asset Management, London and the National Contemporary Drawing Collection amongst others. He is a member of Aosdana. Most Expensive Painting by Donald Teskey The auction record for a work by Donald Teskey was set in 2007, when his urban landscape painting entitled Fruit Market, Early Evening was sold at DeVeres, in Dublin, for €56,000. |
