Sirius Arts Centre

Set up in 1988, the Sirius Arts Centre was established to give the Old Yacht Club in Cobh a new lease of life as a venue for contemporary arts and culture, serving the East Cork area. Funded by the Irish Arts Council, Cork County Council and other bodies, Sirius Arts Centre is dedicated to promoting the awareness, understanding and practice of Irish visual art, including both Irish painting and Irish sculpture. Over the past twenty years, Sirius has developed a flourishing program of Cork art shows, artist residencies, community arts projects, workshops, seminars and lectures. It remains the only arts centre in East Cork and has become an integral part of the cultural life of the region. Cobh continues its development as a heritage town and the Sirius Arts Centre is an important element of that plan.

Sirius hosts numerous contemporary visual arts exhibitions throughout the year in its two gallery spaces. These showcase Cork artists, as well as Irish and international artists. Previous art exhibitions have included: a display of photographs by Young Offenders from St. Patrick's Prison and Klavdij Sluban; a group exhibition by contemporary artists, curated by Sandra Minchin; photographs by Russian Artist Alexey Titarenko; an installation by Irish artists Anthony Kelly and David Stalling; photos by Vee Speers, an Australian artist based in Paris; an installation by Martin Simms, an English Artist based in Australia; works by Cobh painter Mark Hathaway; a group show featuring emerging Western and Eastern European international artists; an installation by Canadian artist Brian Flynn; a sculptural installation by Northern Ireland artist Raymond Watson; artwork from Irish Prison and Detention Centres; a solo show of landscapes by Simon Norfolk.
