Founded in 1866, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) has the largest school-museum campus in America (it adjoins the Art Institute of Chicago). SAIC offers a range of degree courses at undergraduate, post-baccalaureate and graduate levels. Courses are offered in various types of art including: painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, fashion design, arts administration, art history, theory, and criticism; art education and art therapy, film-making, architecture, historic preservation, performance art, photography, time arts (time-based media), film and video, visual communication, critical studies and writing. Notable former students include Georgia O'Keeffe (1887–1986); Grant Wood (1891–1942), famous for his painting American Gothic (1930, Art Institute of Chicago); sculptor Claes Oldenburg (b.1929), painter and regionalist Thomas Hart Benton (1889–1975) and pop artist Jeff Koons (b.1955).
